Review Title : 383710 - "What a wonderful stay!"

"Bad news guys, but we're french (so, sorry for my english)!
We've just spent seven wonderful days in this house (I was about to write "our" house, because we immediatly felt at home). The description and the facilities mentioned above are perfectly correct, but I'd like to insist on a few points:
The way Louise organized ours game drives, horsedriving and other activities before our arrival, with a constant kindness and efficiency.
The warm welcome by Louise and her husband. They are so nice people!
Please also ask for Louis and his wife's diners: it's a not to be missed cook, but they were also so kind and beautiful people. If you ever need any piece of advice, don't hesitate.
The park is great, of course, but you already know it I assume. But I must admit we spent most of our afternoons and evenings on the balcony, waiting for the daily visit of the warthog family, and the couple of impalas... or just walking in the park (I don't mean the Kruger park: don't cross the fence and the river!).
There is also an other balcony upstairs, as you can see on the picture: it was our place for the early morning cup of coffe, and the barbecue (the famous "braai").
What else to say? you can walk in the vacinity of the house and meet zebras and giraffes. The place is totaly safe, which was a important point for us.
Well, we were so sad to leave this place. To finish, I would't recommend this property to a relative, because I want to make sure It will be free when we'll be back!

Dear Louise

I just wanted to write to say how wonderful Kaya Umdani was and our stay there. It was a real wrench to leave it to come home and I will think of it as I face the commute to my office in London tomorrow. Paul and I have rented a number of properties over the years in both Europe and the Americas and without doubt yours is the best in terms of facilities and equipment that we have ever encountered. I am so tired of hiring a house for a week or so and finding it totally devoid of everything including basics light salt and pepper. This certainly didn't apply in your case - you seemed to have thought of everything.

If you will allow me I would just make two comments. Firstly the internet. Given modern communcation systems nowadays I did find it a little frustrating not to be able to log on to pick up emails. Even if working on holidays is to be discouraged it just makes things like reconfirming flights so much easier. Secondly the washing. I do think it would be good to have access to the washing area. Pumi did a grand job but there was only two of us and SAR 300 was a lot to pay for the two small loads that we had. If, as I hope, we return as a bigger group I could see it becoming very expensive. I hope that you will view these as positive criticisms.

I would be grateful if you could let me have Heinrich's email address as I would like to write to him formaking our last visit to the Kruger so very memorable, particularly as we had been very disillusioned by the Skukuza staff.

There is a chance that I might be running a big event in Capetown next year so I will certainly get in tuoch with you if i do so that I can come and chill out in Umdani afterwards.

My best regards to you.

Dag Louise,

Alles was super.

Hi, Louise

We arrived home late last night after spending two and a half wonderful weeks in South Africa.

I thought I should quickly put the proverbial pen to paper to thank you for a very special stay at “Khaya Umdani”. The property was all we could have wished for and so much more! Having travelled extensively in many parts of the world and having stayed in some wonderful hotels and holiday homes, I can say unequivocally that Khaya Umdani is one of the best. We were really impressed with the quality of the accommodation, the standard of maintenance, the generosity of provisions, and the excellent service provided. We also loved the setting and being able to interact so intimately with the animals.

As you know, the main reason for our stay was the 50th wedding anniversary of our parents. This occasion was celebrated in great style for the first few nights of our sojourn! And as for the rest of our visit at Khaya Umdani – unforgettable!

I would like to make special mention of Laurika and Louis who went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable and special as possible. Not only was their catering excellent (and far too generous!), they were always friendly, warm and accommodating. Pommi and Frans too were a pleasure and their help around the house made for a very relaxed stay.

Thank you for so generously sharing your home! We – and our guests – will be back!!
